The 15-minute fan film was released onto youtube two days ago, and has already reached two million views and 126,000 likes at the time of writing.
A few days ago, famous Firefly and Destiny actor Nathan Fillion teased us with what seemed to be information about the new uncharted film from Naughty Dog and Sony, making note of the date, 16th of July.
However, on the 16th of July, instead of information about the official Uncharted film, we instead got a delightful fan film starring Fillion as the lovable rogue treasure hunter lead. Without wishing to spoil it, the film written by Allan Ungar (who served also as director) and Jesse Wheeler, manages to reproduce the brilliant and witty dialogue the series is known for.
The film has gotten an incredibly positive release, with Neil Druckman, Vice President of Naughty Dog and Creative Director for the Uncharted series, tweeting about the film with a single heart emoji.

Within the short 15-minute duration, we are given the Uncharted series’ usual blend of action and enthralling plot, right down to the tradition of having a historical quote on screen before the story begins, relating to the treasure they are hunting. In short, the film is an excellent example of what a video game movie should be striving to do: Capturing the same mood and feel of the game, without relying on fan service to carry it.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fillion and Ungar revealed that the film had been in pre-production since last January, before shooting in May. When asked about whether they would consider doing more Uncharted related work, Ungar stated “I think that we’re very happy and we’re very proud of what we accomplished, and if it lives and dies as a fan film, that’s great.”
“If Sony… I actually got a couple emails today, I’m not gonna say from who, but there’s definitely people talking about what this could mean as a digital series or something further. Obviously there’s interest in there, and I think if it makes sense and if it’s done right, I’d be thrilled to have a conversation about it and possibly see this specific story continue.”
As for the official Uncharted film, the last we heard about it was when Neil Druckman reiterated that the film would be a prequel to the games, focusing on a younger Nathan Drake, played by Spider-Man: Homecoming actor Tom Holland. The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Stranger things and the Night in the Museum films. The script was finished last year by Joe Carnahan, who said on his Instagram that the script was “beast”.
