The Rage 2 and Just Cause developer has been acquired by Nordisk Film.
Nordisk Film have bought Avalanche Studios, spending $103 Million USD to take up all shares, and as a result gain ownership of the game developer. Nordisk had been a minor shareholder of the studio last year, spending only $10 Million USD. Nordisk released a statement saying “At Nordisk Film, we are determined to strengthen our position in the growing global game market.”
Nordisk have stated that their acquisition will not impede on Avalanche Studio’s current projects, and that they will still have creative control of the games they create. Pim Holfve, CEO of Avalanche Studios said in an interview to GameIndustry.biz “As good as we are at developing explosive open-world games, they [Nordisk Film] have a 111-year history of working with companies within the creative industries, and bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience.” The acquisition is set to be finished by the end of this month.
